Ragi Radish Poori

I am not sure if there is any kid out there who does not love poori. The puffed up pooris paired with masal are a favorite here. I wanted to make Radish poori when I saw this recipe  since I have chosen Cooking with Alphabets - 'R'.

Lil angel loves Ragi Poori and Radish. I paired these two in this recipe. The flavor of radish cannot be noticed in the pooris. So this is a great way to feed radish to kids who hate this veggie.

I used :
Adapted from LemonKurry

Whole wheat flour - 1 cup
Ragi flour - 1/4 cup
Radish- 1 medium sized
Ajwain seeds- 1/4 teaspoon
Salt to taste
Oil to deep fry
  1. Peel and slice the radish into thin slices.
  2. Pressure cook / microwave with a little water.
  3. Once it is cool, drain the excess water and puree / mash the cooked radish.
  4. In a bowl add all the ingredients [except the oil] and add this puree little by little to make a firm dough. Water is not needed to make the dough. If the dough is sticky add a little more wheat / ragi flour.
  5. Heat oil for deep frying.
  6. Pinch out small balls from the dough and roll out into pooris.
  7. Deep fry one at a time till it puffs up and cooked
  8. Serve hot with potato masal or any side dish of your choice.

Note :

  • Prepare the pooris as soon as you knead the dough.
  • Ragi flour can be omitted and whole wheat flour alone can be used.

Tomorrow, I will be back with a recipe starting with 'V'. Haven't decided which one, so can't ask you to guess :)

Bon Appetit...

This looks like what we called "curry puffs" here in Singapore & we've potato fillings inside instead. Lovely!

I never thought of making radish curry as stand alone. I do add it to dals etc. Sounds yummy.

I use radish in sambars or in stuffed rotis. Ragi and radish in pooris is totally innovative :)

I absolutely love recipes like this that help sneak vegetables in kids meal. It will be especially helpful for parents with picky eaters. Also the Ragi makes it more wholesome :)
